It's a sad day. My porcelain tea holder has commited suicide. It leaped out of my hand while I was drying it gently after washing and crashed on the floor. No suicide note, though I suspect the severe trauma from having held some repulsive Da Hong Pao leaves just minutes before was what caused it to end it all.
I met it in Guangzhou in March of 2006 at a tea store on the popular Bei Jing Road. It's been a loyal tea companion during its short time with me. It will be missed.

My condolences.
How repulsive was repulsive?
Bummer dude. It always hurts to lose teaware, even the most basic stuff. So you found this in China? I'm thinking I might have to go there to find one that isn't totally ugly.
MarshanN, the dry leaves didn't smell awful...a bit chocolatey and more like burnt charcoal. When wet, however, it turned nasty like some sort of artificial chemical. The tea itself gives this bad chemical taste in my mouth. I've never tasted a bug spray like bbb had, but I assume this is what it tastes like. Then I switched over to my better DHP, then one from Teaspring. Alas, the previous DHP left a bad taste in my mouth that the better DHP tasted nasty too (next day Teaspring's DHP tasted good).
Dustin: I don't think you have to go all the way to China. I think Wing Hop Fung (you are near L.A., right?) or Imperial Tea in SF have some decent tea holders and accessories.
Phyll: Good call on Wing Hop Fung. For some reason that slipped my mind. You're right, I am near LA. I live in San Diego but my girlfriend lives in LA, so I'm up there on a regular basis. She actually lives about fifteen minutes away from the Monterey Park Wing Hop Fung. Now it's just a matter of getting her to go with me this weekend. She hated it the only time we went.
I haven't tried your DHP yet, might do it today, will let you know what I think. I might make my rougui as well just as a comparison.
ouch! It's hard to find something as pretty as that here in LA.
Now we all know what bug spray tastes like! Should we implement this to our grading scale, from bug spray to heavenly aroma?
